Who Are We?

TALK RePaiRs is an Independent Children's Speech and Language Therapy Service run by Ed Hooke, a consultant speech & language therapist with more than 20 years' experience of working with children.  Over the years, Ed has built up considerable expertise which he has used to train & supervise countless other speech and language therapists, other health & education professionals and parents/carers of children with speech, language & communication difficulties.  Between 2002 & 2012, Ed managed the Early Years branch of the Newham children's speech & language therapy service in the NHS, a service which in 2011 won the national Shine-A-Light Children's Speech & Language Therapy Team of the Year award.

Our Philosophy

Parents usually know their child better than anyone else does. When their knowledge is put together with the particular expertise of the therapist, a powerful team is formed to (i) work out the nature of the child’s speech, language and communication difficulties, (ii) find the best ways to help the child’s speech, language and communication develop, by designing strategies that work for the individual child, taking into account their needs, interests and motivations.

Communication is a natural part of everyday life. Speech & language therapy for children usually works best if strategies to help are made part of the child’s daily family life. This needs to happen in a way that’s realistic and manageable for parents too – for example, for 5 to 10 minutes every day. This approach is not only particularly effective but also delivers best value for money.

At TALK RePaiRs, therefore, we believe in working in partnership with parents as the most efficient and effective way to ensure that children's speech, language and communication develop to their maximum potential as quickly as possible.
